Massachusetts Snowmobiler Dies After Being Pulled From Lake

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (AP) — Police say a snowmobile rider has died after being pulled from Congamond Lake in Southwick on Saturday night.

Police said the man apparently tried to ride from ice across an area of open water in a concrete culvert, where he crashed at about 8:30 p.m.

Police said friends found the man lying face down in the water and began CPR. Emergency responders and paramedics from Southwick and Westfield took him to Noble Hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 9:30.

Police from nearby Suffield, Connecticut, also assisted at the scene of the crash.

Local and state environmental police are investigating.
