Power Outages Top 70,000 As Early Morning Storm Hits Massachusetts
BOSTON (CBS) - More than 70,000 homes and businesses lost power early Wednesday morning as strong winds and heavy rain pushed through eastern Massachusetts.
According to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, the number of customers without electricity had dropped to about 2,600 as of 11:45 p.m.
A 72 mile per hour wind gust was recorded at the Blue Hill Observatory in Milton and several other towns had gusts in the 30-to-50 mph range. Logan Airport had a gust of 56 miles per hour.
Plympton firefighters are responding to multiple calls for trees and wires down and on fire. One incident involved a tree that landed on a vehicle with adults and children in the vehicle. There were no injuries. pic.twitter.com/zDKFo1azI4

The Brockton school department said power outages across the city have prevented several students from being able to use their computers for remote learning.
Silver Lake Regional High School and the middle school in Kingston canceled remote learning for the day because there were so many power and internet outages.
The storm is expected to clear by the early afternoon.
