Massachusetts Highways Are Among The Nation's Worst, Report Finds
BOSTON (CBS) – The next time you complain about one of Massachusetts' highways, you'll have the evidence to back you up.
Highways in the Bay State are among the "worst-performing, least cost-effective highway systems" in the country, according to a new report from the Reason Foundation, a libertarian think tank.
Massachusetts comes in at No. 46 in the overall rankings, ahead of only Rhode Island, Hawaii, New Jersey and Alaska. The states with the best highway systems are South Carolina, South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska and Maine, the foundation says.
The biggest trouble spots for Massachusetts? Bridges and traffic.
The Reason Foundation says Massachusetts is one of six states where more than one-third of their bridges "are still deficient or functionally obsolete."
Massachusetts is also shamed for being one of eight states where traffic causes more than 50 hours of delays per driver every year.
