Massachusetts Girl Dies After Snorkeling Off Rhode Island

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (CBS/AP) — Police say a 14-year-old girl from Massachusetts pulled from the waters off Narragansett has died.

The girl from Southfield, Massachusetts, was snorkeling with her father at about 2 p.m. Wednesday when she did not resurface and was reported missing.

Police say they were snorkeling off the rocks Newton Avenue.

She was found on rocks about 50 yards off shore more than two hours later. Rescue personnel performed CPR at the site.

Narragansett Police Chief Dean Hoxie says she was taken to South County Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Her name has been made public.
