Mass. Ski Areas To Participate In World's Biggest Skiing Lesson

BOSTON (CBS) -- At least 150 ski and snowboard areas nationwide, including ones in Massachusetts, plan to participate in a Guinness Book of World Records event to set multiple records.

Records will be set for the world's largest multi-venue ski lesson and the world's largest snowboard lesson, according to a Learn To Ski and Snowboard press statement. The lessons will take place on Jan. 8 at 10 a.m.

Mary Jo Tarallo of Learn to Ski and Snowboard says they will also try to set a record for largest lesson at a single ski area.

"Among those participants, we will see if one of the venues can surpass the current record, which is approximately 500 people," she told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope on Friday.

There is no record for the largest multi-venue ski lesson so however many people take part, that will be the record. The lessons will vary, as some will be free and others will charge a fee, according to the statement.

A couple of Massachusetts venues have registered to take part, including Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Princeton, Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock, and Ski Butternut in Barrington.
