Mass. Pike Lane Closures And Barrier Work Begin Sunday

BOSTON (CBS) - Commuters should begin building a little extra time into their commute as the state Department of Transportation begins replacing barriers on both sides of the Mass. Pike.

The barriers, which don't meet current safety standards, will be replaced from Commonwealth Avenue to Dalton Street, according to the DOT. For the next six months, the left lanes on both sides of the road will be closed mostly to overnight traffic. After that is completed, work will begin in the right lanes of the road.

DOT spokesman Micahel Verseckes told WBZ NewsRadio the work is related to replacing the Commonwealth Avenue deck over the Pike in 2015.

Commuters, Verseckes said, should build a bit of extra time into their commutes.
