Mass Pike Crash In Newton Brings Rush Hour Commute To A Crawl

BOSTON (CBS) -  The Massachusetts Turnpike was a mess in both directions for the Tuesday morning commute.

Check: Traffic Updates

It all started around 7:50 a.m. when four cars collided in the left lane on the westbound side of the Pike in Newton, just before exit 17.

That crash backed up traffic all the way to the Prudential tunnel in downtown Boston.

The eastbound side of the Pike was also jammed all the way back to Framingham because several lanes in Newton were taken up by emergency vehicles responding to the crash.

The wrecks were cleared around 9:20 a.m.

There's no word yet what caused the collision or if there were any serious injuries.
