Mass. Man Sells, Ships Snow Across Country
BOSTON (CBS) - What began as a joke idea has become a flurry of activity for a Boston area couple. Kyle Waring ships snow.
"It was a joke idea. My wife and I were shoveling snow and figuring out ways to get it out of our yard," said Waring.
At the beginning of February Kyle developed the website ShipSnowYo.com. The joke was soon on him as the first day he received an order.
"They're crazy. I thought it was funny," said Jessica Waring.
The couple shovels the snow usually by their home in Manchester-By-The-Sea. They ship six pounds for $89 with the tagline "Our nightmare is your dream." They ship 14 pounds of snow for $169 labelled "A blizzard in a box."
"It was not as easy as I thought and it's more of a serious endeavor now," said Kyle.
He said he researched how to best ship the snow and overnight it to customers. He has shipped to more than 23 states, but most orders have gone to California and Florida. His order total is almost at 175.
With all the frosty fun, he has one very strict rule – he does not ship to Massachusetts addresses.
"It's a strict policy. We have too much snow here," said Kyle.
