Mass. Auditor Denies Accusation She Did Campaign Work In State House Office
BOSTON (AP) – Massachusetts Auditor Suzanne Bump is denying allegations by a former aide that she conducted political activities out of her State House office.
Bump was responding to a lawsuit filed Wednesday by former Deputy Auditor Laura Marlin in U.S. District Court.
In the wrongful termination lawsuit, Marlin alleges that she was fired after she challenged what she described as Bump's mixing of campaign activities with her official duties as auditor.
In a written statement released Wednesday afternoon, Bump said she has never asked or had others ask any of her staff to conduct campaign activities on state time or in state buildings.
She also said she's never let any organization or individual influence an audit.
Bump said she won't elaborate on her decision to ask for Marlin's resignation, citing Marlin's privacy rights.
Bump, a Democrat, is facing re-election.
