13-Year-Old Mashpee Boy Hit And Killed By Car

MASHPEE (CBS) – A Mashpee boy who was hit by a car Tuesday night has died as a result of his injuries.

Mashpee Police say 13-year-old Jeremiah Smith was hit at the intersection of Quinaquisset Ave. and Mashpee Neck Road at around 8:30 p.m.

Smith was transported to Cape Cod Hospital but did not survive.

Barnstable Superintendent of Schools Bill Butler confirmed Smith was a student at Barnstable Intermediate School.

The district activated its crisis team to the school overnight. Grief counselors will be available on Wednesday for students and staff.

The driver of the car involved was identified as Constantinos Mitrokostas, 55, also of Mashpee.

Police are currently working to determine the cause of the crash.
