Market Basket Worker Hit By Snowplow Dies

FITCHBURG (CBS) -- A 21-year-old Fitchburg woman has died from her injuries after being hit by a snowplow Friday night, officials said.

Elizabeth Hill had just left her job at Market Basket in Fitchburg when she was struck near Upham Street on the John Fitch Highway at about 6:30 p.m., police said. The roadway had been narrowed by the recent record-setting amounts of snowfall.

She worked at Market Basket for 3-and-a-half years while attending Mount Wachusett Community College.

Friends said that Hill was always happy and smiling. She would walk the half mile to and from her job, they said.

"It's an unfortunate tragedy that she's not with us anymore," her friend Saad Chaudhary told WBZ NewsRadio 1030. "All we can do is just pray and hope that she has a great time in heaven."

Police said Friday night that no charges have been brought against the driver.

There was a small memorial inside the Market Basket where she worked on Sunday morning. There were pictures and flowers, not just from coworkers, but customers too.

Coworker Kristi Violette said Hill was a "true Basketeer" and an "absolute sweet girl."

"She's so bubbly and bright. She was a like a ray of light that just lit up the room every time she was here," Violette said. "We're not going to let her be forgotten because you can't forget such an amazing girl."
