Marine Chases, Tackles Alleged Purse Snatcher In Boston

BOSTON (CBS) – A US Marine chased and tackled a man who allegedly stole a woman's purse in Chinatown Tuesday night.

Demetrick Nealy, 26, is accused of stealing a 41-year-old woman's purse from behind as she walked down Beach Street. The woman screamed for help and a 23-year-old Marine Corps lieutenant from California responded.

"This young man saw what was happening and sprinted into action," Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley said. "He chased the suspect for about four blocks, tackled him, and held him for police."

Nealy, of Roslindale, was charged Wednesday with one count of unarmed robbery and was held on $5,000 cash bail.

"She was lucky to have a Good Samaritan looking out for her, but even luckier that he was a Marine," Conley said.
