Homeless Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Mansfield Stabbing

MANSFIELD (CBS) -- A 37-year-old homeless man is accused of attempted murder after a stabbing in Mansfield Tuesday night.

Shane Butler, who has no permanent address, was due in Attleboro District Court Thursday on charges including assault with intent to murder, and assault and battery on a police officer.

Mansfield police say they were called to 333 North Main St. at about 10:15 p.m. for a fight between two men. It's alleged that Butler stabbed the victim in the eye with a knife.

Authorities tracked down Butler downtown and say he "actively fought with officers" as he resisted arrest.

Butler was eventually taken into custody. The victim was hospitalized, but police have not released additional details on his condition.
