Driver Killed After Slamming Into Tractor Trailer In Fiery Mansfield Crash
MANSFIELD (CBS) – The driver of a pickup truck died after slamming into the back of a tractor-trailer that was pulled over with a flat tire on the side of Interstate 95 in Mansfield.
The crash took place around 5:30 a.m. near Exit 5.
Massachusetts State Police said the driver of a 2015 Ford F250 truck was driving at a high rate of speed in the breakdown lane before slamming into the back of a 2015 Kenworth tractor trailer.
The pickup truck immediately burst into flames and the driver died on the scene.
The tractor-trailer was heavily damaged as well.
Police said the tractor trailer driver is a 56-year-old Rhode Island man who was in the driver's seat at the time of the crash. He suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.
Massachusetts State Police are still investigating the fatal crash, which backed up traffic for more than four miles.
The driver of the pickup truck has not been identified and no further details are currently available.
