Cyclist Struck, Killed By Commuter Rail Train In Somerville

SOMERVILLE (CBS) -- A cyclist was struck and killed by an MBTA Commuter Rail train while trying to cross the tracks Sunday afternoon, MBTA Transit Police said.

Transit Police say the man was attempting to cross the tracks at a crossing on Park Street in Somerville while the gates were down and an outbound Fitchburg Line train was approaching.

He was struck by that train around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, and pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

The man, who was between 25 and 30 years old, has not yet been identified.

Transit Police and the Middlesex District Attorney's office are investigating.
