Man Standing Outside Disabled Car Struck, Killed On I-495 In Methuen

METHUEN (CBS) -- A 28-year-old man was struck and killed while standing outside his disabled car in a highway breakdown lane Saturday afternoon, Massachusetts State Police said.

The crash happened on Interstate 495 north near exist 46 in Methuen, where the driver of a 2004 Lexus was standing outside his car in the breakdown lane at about 2:45 p.m. A 1999 Dodge Durango traveling north then struck the Lexus, and the man standing outside was hit by both vehicles, according to police.

The Lexus driver was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 39-year-old Durango driver was identified as Anthony Passerini of Methuen and treated for minor injuries.

The victim's name has not yet been released. The crash is still under investigation.
