Man Shot, Killed Near MBTA Bus In Lynn

LYNN (CBS) – A man was shot and killed on a street in Lynn Monday morning.

Philip Russo, 24, was shot on Chestnut Street near Mason Street just before 6 a.m.

Police told WBZ-TV he ran out into the road and collapsed near an MBTA bus.

Russo was rushed to Lynn Union Hospital where he died.

"At this time, it does not appear to be a random act," said Carrie Kimball-Monahan, a spokesperson for the Essex District Attorney's Office.

There have been no arrests, and authorities asked the public to contact Lynn Police with any information about the shooting. Investigators interviewed possible witnesses on the bus.

Police shut down Chestnut Street for several hours after the shooting.

They also tied crime scene tape across the entrance of a home on Kingsley Terrace where the door was stained with blood.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said they were trying to determine whether Russo lived at his last listed address on Sherman Street in Peabody, or if he was living at the Kingsley Terrace address.

"I am not really sure if he was living here or visiting, but it's just very sad because it's a loss of life, resident Jennifer Lunetta told WBZ-TV.
