Man Shot By Brookline Police Officer Inside Beacon Street Apartment

BROOKLINE (CBS) - Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting inside an apartment in Brookline.

Around 7:50 p.m. on Friday, officers arrived at the apartment at 1876 Beacon Street after a report of a man who had been using inhalants and had threatened two people with a knife.

Officers say the 27-year-old who lives in the apartment near Cleveland Circle opened the door and charged at them with the knife as they arrived to investigate.

One of the officers fired two rounds at the man, striking him once.

He was transported to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he is currently being treated. His name and condition were not immediately released.

Brookline police say preliminary reports indicate the officers acted appropriately. However, the incident remains under investigation.

The officer involved with the incident has been placed on paid leave, which is standard protocol.
