Man Killed In Early Morning House Fire In West Bridgewater

WEST BRIDGEWATER (CBS/AP) — A Massachusetts man has been killed in an early morning house fire.

The Plymouth District Attorney's Office says firefighters responded to the two-family home on Matfield Street in West Bridgewater just after 5 a.m. Monday.

The body of 54-year-old Robert Murphy was pulled from the home's first-floor apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A family with a young child living on the second floor made it out okay. They told investigators they tried to alert Murphy to the fire before they escaped the blaze.

The West Bridgewater Fire Chief told WBZ that family was lucky to make it out.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze, but was expected to be okay.

Investigators say the fire is not considered suspicious, and no foul play is suspected.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
