Man In Car During Police Officer Shooting Appears In Court

CHARLESTOWN - A 22-year-old who is in the car with a man accused of shooting a Boston police officer in the face appeared in court Monday morning.

Jonathan Aguasvivas faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and destruction of property. Those charges are related to a domestic violence incident earlier last week; he has not yet been charged in connection with the police shooting.

In the domestic incident, a police report states Aguasvivas waved a knife at the mother of his son, and broke multiple electronic devices belonging to the victim.

On Friday night, police say Angelo West fired shots during a traffic stop. Officer John Moynihan was critically wounded, and police returned fire, killing West.

Moynihan underwent several hours of surgery Sunday to remove a bullet from his neck, and doctors are optimistic about his recovery.

Aguasvivas has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2006. The district attorney's office says most of his charges are domestic abuse or weapons charges.

The judge ordered Aguasvivas be held on $30,000 cash bail. His next court appearance is a pretrial hearing on April 29.
