Man Hit, Killed By Train At Ruggles Station

BOSTON (CBS) -- A man was hit and killed by an orange line train at the Ruggles T Station Monday afternoon.

Police say a man stepped off the platform just as a train was entering the station. No foul play is suspected, officials say.

"Unfortunately that male was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained," MBTA Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said. "Transit police detectives are investigating this but I do want everyone to know that no foul play is suspected."

The tracks between Jackson and Haymarket Stations were closed for about an hour and a half as a result of the death. A shuttle bus service was offered to commuters during the track closure. The MBTA reported moderate delays on the orange line.

Though Ruggles Station is near Northeastern University, police do not believe the victim was a college student.

Transit police say the man was trespassing when he was hit. They plan to review surveillance footage as part of their investigation.
