Man Falls Into Veteran's Grave At Lowell Cemetery

LOWELL (CBS) - A man walking through a Lowell cemetery fell into a veteran's grave. Thomas Foster was there Thursday to visit his brother in law's grave-site on the anniversary of his death.

But when he crossed the cemetery, the ground broke through and he fell into a grave.

The cemetery has placed a big board over the hole near the headstone at the Westlawn Cemetery.

Foster says he wasn't really sure what happened when he fell. "It didn't register right off the bat until I stood up and thought about it for a minute," Foster said. "I thought it was just a small hole until I realized that I had fallen right through the ground and had to pull my leg out of the hole."

WBZ spoke with the cemetery commissioner who said this happens sometimes and they are working to get the problem fixed.
