Wayland Home Invasion Suspect Arraigned

FRAMINGHAM (CBS) – A 21-year-old man facing home invasion charges in Wayland was arraigned Thursday.

John T. Monahan of Wayland allegedly broke into a West Plain Street home on Sunday night. He has been charged with assault and battery and breaking and entering at nighttime with the intent to commit a felony.

Monahan sat next to his parents during his arraignment at Framingham District Court. He is expected back in court to continue his arraignment in late June.

Prosecutors say the victim told police that she saw a man with a black tank top and dark-colored pants coming toward her. He allegedly entered the home through an unlocked door in the kitchen and that's where she first saw him.

The victim says Monahan grabbed her face, she screamed and he ran off.

Police say surveillance images captured of Monahan walking outside the home led to multiple tips, which helped investigators make an arrest on Wednesday.

Clerk Magistrate Sean Coleman set bail at $1,000 cash, with conditions that Monahan stay away from the victim and her residence, possess no weapons, use no drugs or alcohol and submit to random tests, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan's office.

He will reappear in court on on June 29.
