The chase continued into Charlton where, police say, the suspect struck another car, injuring an 82-year-old man on Southbridge Road before fleeing on foot.

Charlton, Southbridge, and Massachusetts State Police set up a perimeter and asked nearby residents to stay indoors.

Residents on Carpenter Hill Road saw the suspect in their driveway and called 911, allowing police to arrest him around 5 p.m.

Alcohol and narcotics were found in his car.

Waack now faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, leaving the scene of property damage, and receiving stolen property over $250. He was transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
