Man Arrested In East Boston Sex Assault, Armed Robbery

BOSTON (CBS) -- A 20-year-old man has been arrested in a sexual assault and armed robbery in East Boston early Saturday morning, and police believe he may be connected to a similar attack earlier this month.

Police said a woman reported that she had just arrived home from work at 1:44 a.m. in the Eagle Hill area when a man approached her from behind, pushed her into her front hallway, displayed a knife and demanded money. The man sexually assaulted her and took money before fleeing the area on foot, police said.

A description of the man fit a suspect who was arrested a short time later, according to police. Eduardo Selvan Hernandez-Ortiz, of East Boston, is charged with armed robbery, indecent assault and battery, assault with intent to rape and open and gross lewdness.

Police say they believe Hernandez-Ortiz may have also been involved in a similar incident on Nov. 1 when a woman was robbed and sexually assaulted while walking home from work on Border Street.

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call police.

The suspect is set to be arraigned in East Boston District Court on Monday.
