Man Allegedly Hides Gun At Worcester Public Library

WORCESTER (CBS) -- A 24-year-old man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly hid a handgun at Worcester Public Library on Friday morning.

Police say Luis Bermudez, of Worcester, was spotted by an off-duty Boston police officer carrying the gun in his waistband in the area of Main and Chatham streets around 11:15 a.m.

The officer followed him to the library before calling Worcester police about a suspicious man.

A pair of Worcester police officers arrived, found Bermudez, and lost sight of him momentarily.

They then saw him sitting at a computer.

After reviewing surveillance video, investigators say Bermudez put the gun on a bookshelf in one of the aisles.

Officers were able to recover the gun.

Bermudez did not have a license to carry a handgun and was taken into custody.

He was charged with possession of a firearm/ammunition without an FID Card, and disorderly conduct.
