Man Accidentally Shot By Hunter In Barnstable
HYANNIS (CBS) – A man walking his dog was shot by a hunter on Cape Cod Monday evening.
Police are calling this an accidental shooting, but the hunter is facing several charges.
At about 5pm Monday, the hunter, 47-year-old Sean Houle of Marstons Mills, was in the woods near Mary Dunn Road in Barnstable.
He was hunting with what police call a black powder gun, almost like a musket. He fired two shots and then heard the victim scream out, 'stop I've been hit.'
The 39-year-old victim, also from Marstons Mills, was out jogging with his dog. The hunter then ran to the unnamed victim to offer help.
The victim, struck twice by pellets in both of his hands and his upper back, was taken to Cape Cod hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Houle is being held on $5,000 cash bail and will be in court Tuesday morning.
Though this was an accident, Houle is still charged with careless or negligent use of a weapon and for unlawful possession of a different gun found in his truck.
