Lynn Ferry Service Returns For The Summer

LYNN (CBS) -- The alternative commuter service, a seasonal ferry, from Lynn to Boston opened on Tuesday.

"I was up an hour early I was so excited this morning," Sheila of Revere told WBZ NewsRadio.

The ferry ran in 2014 and 2015, but did not receive enough funding to be in service last summer.

Tuesday's passengers seemed thrilled the ferry was revived.

"It's great, I love it. I commuted on it the first two years it was going and I'm going to start again," said James of Nahant.

"It's a much more pleasant way to get into town. It's not faster necessarily but it's a whole lot more pleasant."

Sheila explained, "The difference in the quality of the commute isn't even measurable. You get off the boat, you've chatted, you've had a cup of coffee, you've been with friends, you're not standing in line fighting to get a seat."

The 35-minute boat ride is $7 one way.

The commuter service will run until September 22.

"It is the best thing since sliced boats," one commuter joked.
