Children Rescued From Lowell Pool Expected To Survive

LOWELL (CBS) – Two children who nearly drowned in a pool at a Lowell home remain hospitalized but are expected to survive.

Around 8:20 p.m. Saturday night, an unresponsive preschool-aged boy and girl were pulled from a pool on Freda Lane.

WBZ-TV's Chantee Lans has learned that both children remain in the hospital in serious condition, but are expected to survive.

Bob Baker lives next door to the home. He is a registered nurse and said he revived the girl after he heard cries for help.

"I heard somebody saying 'Oh my God!' and we went over to help," Baker recalled.

Baker gave the girl breaths and chest compressions. She was conscious as she was loaded into the ambulance.

Just as Baker was about to begin rescue efforts on the boy, EMTs arrived at the home.

The homeowners stopped by to thank Baker for his rescue efforts on Sunday.

"No," said Baker when asked if he considered himself a hero. "I consider myself a good nurse. They required help."
