Arrest Made After Alleged Intentional Lowell Hit And Run

LOWELL (CBS) – Police have arrested a driver accused fleeing the area after intentionally hitting a teenager who was riding his bike in Lowell.

Calvin Sousa, 21, of Lowell was arrested and charged with armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

The arrest comes in connection with a Friday incident during which police say Sousa crossed over a lane of traffic in order to hit the victim, a 15-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle on Lawrence Street.

As of Tuesday, the victim remained in stable condition at Boston Children's Hospital.

Police said on Friday that there was evidence there may have been a conversation between the victim, another child, and the occupents of the involved pickup truck before the incident took place.

Sousa is expected to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Wednesday morning.
