Man Tackled After Following Young Girls Into Lowell Home
LOWELL (CBS) – Police say a Lowell man followed two young girls into their home on Sunday, but was subdued by the children's parents and a neighbor.
Fifty-four-year-old Wayne Spencer allegedly walked into a Court Street home behind the girls, who are 11 and 9 years old. Spencer was confronted by the mother of one of the girls, who pushed him out of the house.
"It was a bit of a fight, a little bit. I don't remember too much because of the adrenaline and everything happening," Maureen Santos said. "You quickly want to get your family safe. I got him out."
Santos' daughter Elizabeth said she and her friends were attempting to run away from Spencer when he followed them.
"I told my friend, 'Just run somewhere where he won't get you, just run.' So my other friend ran in the house with me. I threw her in front of me and he charged and tried to grab me by the hair," Elizabeth said.
Police say Santos, another man and neighbor Brian Hackett. The pair held Spencer down until police could arrive.
"He jumped on top of him, and I ran pretty much behind him, jumped on the other side of him as well. And when I did we pretty much had him pinned, down waited for the cops to get here," Hackett said. "In a nutshell, just made sure the kids were safe. That's all we cared about."
Lowell Police did not yet release the exact charges Spencer is facing.
