Local Organization Warns Against Leaving Kids In Hot Cars

BOSTON (CBS) --  On a 70-degree day, temperatures in the car can reach 90 degrees, even with the window cracked. The numbers rise exponentially from there.

That's why local organization "The Children's Trust" is reminding parents to never leave kids in the car, even for a minute.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karen Twomey reports

Nationwide, around 40 children die each year. So far, there have been five deaths, and summer is just getting underway.
"Never leave your children in the car, they are precious and irreplaceable," Rayna Charles of The Children's Trust said.

Charles says she knows things get confusing and parents' routines may vary. She suggests putting a phone or purse in the back seat so parents will be forced to retrieve them.
