Brockton Students Taken To Hospital After Ingesting Liquid Nicotine

BROCKTON (CBS) -- Three Edgar B. Davis Community School students were taken to the hospital as a precaution after a classmate shared liquid nicotine with them on the school bus Monday morning, the superintendent of Brockton Schools said.

A student brought a vial of the substance, used in e-cigarettes or vapor cigarettes, onto the bus and shared a few drops with the two students. They were ill by the time they arrived at the school.

The students' parents had them checked out at an area hospital while the substance was analyzed, Brockton School Superintendent Kathleen A. Smith said.

Smith said no other students were ever in danger.

"We caution parents to be vigilant and securely store away all substances in the home that could be dangerous and easily accessed by children, as we all also continue to educate children about the importance of health and wellbeing," Smith said in a statement.

The ages of the students were not known. The Davis School teaches students in grades K-8.

Liquid nicotine can be dangerous in small doses even to adults when ingested without being vaporized.
