Lawrence Firefighters Confronted By Explosions In House Fire

LAWRENCE (CBS) – There's no word yet on what caused a three-alarm fire with explosions at a home in Lawrence overnight.

Firefighters were called to the two-and-a-half story home on Olive Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karen Twomey reports

As they arrived, they heard explosions, which turned out to be oxygen tanks blowing up. Firefighters say the explosions, along with large trees in front of the home, made it difficult to reach the fire.

All eight people inside when the fire started manged to escape safely, but a dog and four cats were killed.

One woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
