Koji Uehara Added To All-Star Roster

BOSTON (CBS) – Red Sox closer Koji Uehara has been added to the active American League roster for next week's MLB All-Star Game. Uehara replaces Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka who was placed on the DL Wednesday.

Uehara is 4-2 with 18 saves this season. He has a 1.30 ERA and 52 strikeouts.

This is the 39-year-old's first major league All-Star selection. He was an All-Star for the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball eight times (1999-2005, 2007).

Uehara joins teammate Jon Lester and manager John Farrell at the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday.
