Kingston Collection Worker Slashed In Altercation With Customer

KINGSTON (CBS) – A customer accused of slashing a worker at a sporting goods store during an argument was ordered held on $50,000 bail.

Jeffrey Jones, 27, of Duxbury, was arraigned in connection with the attack.

Investigators say Jones went into the Champs sporting goods store in the Kingston Collection Tuesday afternoon and got into an altercation with an employee.

The worker, a 20-year-old man, asked Jones to leave. Police say that's when Jones punched the man and then slashed his face with a box cutter.

Jones was arrested. He spent the night at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility.

A prosecutor said during Jones' Wednesday court appearance that he has a long history of violent assaults, but has never served time.

The judge ordered a dangerousness hearing for Jones that is scheduled for Monday.

There's no word yet on a motive for the attack, but police say the two men did not know each other.

The victim was taken to the hospital. His name has not been released, but the prosecutor for the case told WBZ-TV that he went through surgery on Wednesday morning and remains hospitalized.
