State Sen. Donnelly Hospitalized With Undisclosed Condition

BOSTON (AP) — State Sen. Kenneth Donnelly has been hospitalized and is expected to undergo surgery in the next couple of days.

The Arlington Democrat was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital over the weekend, according to the senator's Facebook page. The posting said he was "experiencing difficulties" but did not reveal the nature of his illness.

A retired firefighter, Donnelly has served in the Senate since 2009 and currently holds the position of majority whip.

He was absent for the final day of the legislative session on Sunday.
