Keller @ Large: Labor Leader Talks Teamsters 'Top Chef' Extortion Allegations

BOSTON (CBS) -- Recently re-elected Massachusetts AFL-CIO President Steve Tolman tells WBZ political analyst Jon Keller that an alleged ugly incident involving local Teamsters and the "Top Chef" crew in Boston shouldn't taint the public's view of labor unions.

Four Teamsters are accused of using violence, profanity and homophobic slurs to harass host Padma Lakshmi and the production crew. Prosecutors say they were upset that "Top Chef" was using non-union workers.

"There's four bad apples" out of thousands of Massachusetts Teamsters, Tolman said. "They made mistakes and nobody's proud of that, but it doesn't mean the labor movement is bad."

Keller also asked which 2016 presidential candidate has made an impression on Tolman, and the labor leader answered with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

"He's talking about rural America, he's talking about middle class America, he's talking about city America," Tolman said.

Tolman also talked about the opioid crisis in Massachusetts with Keller.
