Keller @ Large: Walsh Says Boston Won't Be On Hook For Olympic Cost Overruns

BOSTON (CBS) -- The mayor of Boston says taxpayers won't be on the hook for any revenue shortfalls if the city is awarded the 2024 Summer Olympics.

WBZ-TV political analyst Jon Keller asked Mayor Marty Walsh about the International Olympic Committee's practice of requiring host cities to cover any cost overruns.

"No I won't be signing any document that will have the City of Boston responsible for any overruns," Walsh said. "2024 is looking at ways now of how to give the city a guarantee."

Walsh also acknowledged that the much-criticized Olympic bid "needed a better plan coming out of the box."

"Over the course of the next two weeks, there are going to be some real announcements made as far as how the Olympics will be paid for," Walsh said. "We're trying to make up a six-month period of just being bombarded."

Walsh also addressed recent shootings in Boston that left a 16-year-old dead and a 7-year-old injured.

"There's a lot of great people in our neighborhoods who are just tired of the shootings and the crime that's going on," Walsh said. "We have to do a better job of getting into these neighborhoods and talking to young people."
