Keller @ Large: MBTA Reforms Not Anti-Union, House Speaker Says

BOSTON (CBS) -- Tensions are high between labor leaders and top House Democrats over Gov. Charlie Baker's MTBA reform plan.

The Boston Globe reported that labor unions are talking about running their own candidates against some incumbent Democrats who supported suspending the Pacheco Law and privatizing some MBTA contracts.

"I'm sort of disappointed that it went this far," House Speaker Robert DeLeo told WBZ-TV political analyst Jon Keller. "I never consider what we've done to be anti-union."

DeLeo says he backed Baker's proposals because he does not want a repeat of last winter, when record-setting snow paralyzed the state's transportation system.

"I felt that we had to do everything in our power to see that that does not occur again," he said. "We can't have another winter like we had last winter where people could not get to work."

DeLeo also talked about his skepticism over the funding plan for the proposed Boston 2024 Olympics.
