Keller @ Large: Bizzare Driver Behavior Just Won't Stop

BOSTON (CBS) - OK, I promise I will get off the snow rudeness beat after today.

But while I thought I had seen every form of discourtesy one Boston driver can show another, I was wrong.

Tuesday morning, I dropped Buddy the Wonder Lab off at doggie day camp at a local mall where the parking lot had been well plowed. The parking-spot lines were visible, and there were quite a few cars parked, making it clear where the driving lanes between the parked cars were.

But as I exited my parking spot and tried to turn left down the lane between the rows, I found that someone had parked their car completely blocking the travel lane. No HP placard, a late-model car, casually parked where it could cause maximum disruption to others.

There were open parking spaces just a few yards away, but this creature had decided that the rules being followed by everyone else just didn't apply to him or her.

Just then I noticed two police cruisers parked nearby, and drove over to them. I pointed out the offender, and they agreed that this was a new one for them, too. We all had a sarcastic laugh about it, and then the officers said "we'll take care of this" walked toward the upscale coffee shop closest to the lunatic parker.

I was already running late for work and couldn't stick around to watch the fun, but I cannot imagine what possible excuse this person might have offered the police. Unless it was a really, really good one, I hope they delivered a major dose of shame in as public a manner as possible.

I reiterate my message from Tuesday – we do not exist in a vacuum, especially during tough conditions like these.

We owe it to others to offer to at least a minimum level of respect and consideration.

And you know what?

Until I no longer see bizarre behavior like this, I'm not going to shut up about it.
