Keller @ Large: A Story Of Wisdom

BOSTON (CBS) - Let's end the week on an upbeat note, shall we? With a story of wisdom in a world with far too little of it.

Whatever else you make of President Obama, surely every American can endorse the firm stand he has reportedly taken in our cultural battle of light versus darkness.

According to the website Radar Online – a sort of online New York Times for people who don't read the New York Times – Kim Kardashian has repeatedly attempted to become involved in public political activity on behalf of the president, even proposing that she be a campaign surrogate during his 2012 re-election bid.

But a source – anonymous, of course, because who among us wants to risk the wrath of the Kardashians? – tells Radar "they wanted nothing to do with her. Kim is political poison. Having her involved in a political event or with a candidate is the last thing people who are serious about getting elected want."

Clearly, the Obamas were serious.

And it's not as if they can't be generous with their standards – Radar notes that Katy Perry has been an active campaign surrogate for them.

I fully endorse the president's position here.

If Kim Kardashian were merely narcissistic and vapid, she'd have plenty of company in the reality TV VIP lounge. But now that she's in league with Kanye West, whom the president himself once referred to as a dolt, Kim is turning vapidity and narcissism into a weapon of mass disgustion.

While her sisters sometimes show interest in others, Kim either does not or hides it very well. She worships fame and money, while truly earning neither.

I can't imagine what young girls learn from experiencing her, or the message her glorification sends to them.

And I applaud the president for seeing that, and drawing the line.
