Keating Says Law Will Boost Intelligence-Sharing
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Massachusetts congressman says a new law proposed in the aftermath of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing will help strengthen intelligence-sharing among federal, state and local law agencies.
U.S. Rep. William Keating says the provision was added to a bill recently signed by President Barack Obama that authorizes appropriations for U.S. intelligence agencies.
The Cape Cod Democrat says the measure will require the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and Director of National Intelligence to assess and improve information-sharing between agencies that comprise Joint Terrorism Task Forces.
Keating noted that former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis testified before Congress that his department did not have all the information federal law enforcement had about the marathon bombing suspects before the attack. Davis did not speculate if that information could have prevented the bombing.
