Jury Chosen In Trial Of Tsarnaev Friend

BOSTON (CBS) -- A jury has been chosen in the trial of a friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Robel Phillipos, of Cambridge, is charged with lying to authorities investigating the deadly attack.

Jury selection wrapped up Thursday in U.S. District Court. Twelve regular jurors and four alternates were chosen. Opening statements are scheduled for Monday.

Phillipos is charged with making false statements when questioned about his movements on April 18, 2013, three days after the bombing and hours after the FBI released photos of Tsarnaev and his brother as suspects.

Prosecutors say Phillipos lied about being in Tsarnaev's dorm room while two other friends removed Tsarnaev's laptop and backpack, which contained fireworks that had been emptied of their explosive powder.

Three people were killed and 260 were injured in the 2013 bombing.
