Julian Edelman Injures Surgically Repaired Foot; Initial Reports Indicate It's Not Serious
BOSTON (CBS) -- The news on recovering wide receiver Julian Edelman has been all positive this camp. Until Tuesday.
Edelman, who was taken off the PUP list on Sunday as he works his way back from offseason foot surgery, participated in Tuesday's Patriots practice with the Saints. He looked to be himself ... before his day ended prematurely.
Julian Edelman left the field. Slammed his helmet down and walked off slowly.. #WBZ

Julian Edelman has gone off to the side with disgust, threw helmet. Trainer Jim Whalen looking at lower left leg as Edelman sits on cart.

The injury appeared to be in Edelman's left foot, which is the same foot which required surgery in the offseason.
Fortunately for the Patriots, whatever the injury was, it wasn't severe enough to require Edelman to take a cart to the locker room.
Prior to suffering the injury, Edelman was carving up the Saints' secondary.
Edelman just turned some kid's ankles into applesauce in 1-on-1s.

Edelman looked great in 1 on 1 drill - but looked to injure foot/leg. Looked at on cart. Walked off field under his own power #wbz #patriots

Edelman superb in 1 on 1s, turning Pruitt and Bell completely around. But in 2 of 3 reps, went to the foot/ankle. Now disappears down hill

Julian Edelman has left practice. Walked off. Spent time on the cart w/ trainer. May have injured himself on incredible route vs. Bell.

Edelman initially injured his foot last year in Week 10 against the New York Giants. He underwent surgery which allowed him to return to the Patriots for the playoffs. He caught 10 passes for 100 yards in the divisional round win vs. Kansas City before catching seven passes for 53 yards in a loss in Denver in the AFC Championship Game. He underwent a second surgery in May but was expected to be healthy in time for the 2016 season.
UPDATE:
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the early examination on Edelman yielded positive results for the Patriots.
Based on the initial exams, #Patriots WR Julian Edelman's injury is not believed to be serious, source said. Will keep checking.
