Patriots' Julian Edelman Now Owns Second-Most Postseason Receptions In NFL History

BOSTON (CBS) -- Julian Edelman climbed up the NFL's postseason record book on Sunday, as the Patriots receiver now owns the second-most receptions in playoff history.

Edelman entered Sunday's divisional round game against the Chargers trailing Reggie Wayne on the all-time list, but quickly tied and surpassed him with five first-half receptions against the Los Angeles Chargers. Edelman took sole possession of second place on the first play of the second quarter, hauling in a 17-yard pass from Tom Brady, the 94th postseason reception of his career. That reception helped set up a Brady-to-Phillip Dorsett touchdown that gave New England a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter.

Edelman, 32, is up to 98 career postseason receptions, but he has a long ways to go in order to catch the all-time leader, Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, who had 151 receptions in the playoffs.

He finished Sunday with nine receptions off the 13 passes that Tom Brady sent his way in New England's 41-28 win over the Chargers on Sunday, with a postseason career-high 151 receiving yards.

"He's such a great player and just a great teammate, competitor and had a great game today," Brady said of his buddy. "He came up big. We needed it and we'll need it next week too."

Edelman remained humble as ever after the win when told of his monster stat line after Sunday's win.

"Doesn't mean anything unless you win," he said.

With Sunday's win, the Patriots advanced to their eighth straight AFC Championship game, and will now take on the Chiefs in Kansas City next Sunday.
