Woman Charged With Homicide After Police Say She Led Them To A Body

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS/AP) — New Hampshire police say a woman has been charged with firing a gun and killing a man inside of an apartment.

Police in Manchester say they were called to Bridge Street early Wednesday and found 32-year-old Jorjianna Rittenhour, of McGuffey, Ohio outside. She directed them to the man.

"She had made statements to the effect of 'I shot him' and that she was playing with his gun and that he is on the couch," Assistant Hillsborough County Attorney Patrice Casian said.

Prosecutors say she was looking through the red scope of a 9mm Glock when she pulled the trigger.

Police found a handgun at the scene and charged her with negligent homicide. The man was 37, but didn't release his name, pending notification of family.

Rittenhour's public defender says it was an accident. "She assumed based on the conversation she had with the deceased that the gun was not loaded," Shelagh O'Donnell said.

She's been ordered held on $100,000 cash bail.
