Jones: Bruins-Capitals A Must-Win For Boston?

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Bruins were off Tuesday night, but other games played around the league were just as impactful to the B's playoff hopes.

Adam Jones and Rich Keefe broke down the implications of the Ottawa Senators' overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday night on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

Right wing Mark Stone scored two goals for the Senators, including the overtime game-winner just 2:43 into the extra stanza. With the win, the Senators are now tied with the Bruins in points towards the final Eastern Conference Wild Card spot, but Boston holds the tiebreaker over Ottawa and would make the playoffs if the season ended today.

"That is the team that will not die," said Jones when speaking about the Senators.

The Bruins, meanwhile, are looking to extend their five-game win streak Wednesday when they visit the Washington Capitals, who have already clinched a playoff berth in the East.

After Washington, the Bruins close out the regular season in Florida, first against the Panthers Thursday and then against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.

"They've got to answer the bell on Wednesday because Ottawa and Detroit both took care of business [Tuesday night]," said Jones.

Keefe saw less desperation in the Bruins' playoff chances, noting that they should be able to pick up points in the last three regular season games while the Senators only have two games left.

"I don't think it is a must-win and I think Ottawa has their work cut out for them more. I find it hard to believe the Bruins aren't going to get any points over the next three games," said Keefe.

The Bruins return to the ice Wednesday in Washington for an 8pm start against the Capitals.
