Jones: Big Season Ahead For John Farrell

BOSTON (CBS) -  Like KISS after 1982, and again after 2002, the Red Sox are without an Ace.

Boston made an effort to re-sign Jon Lester this offseason, but their offer did not come close to the six-year, $155 million deal he reached with the Chicago Cubs.

So now the team is left with Rick Porcello, Wade Miley, Joe Kelly, Justin Masterson and Clay Buchholz -- all fine pitchers, but certainly nobody you'd feel confident starting in a one-game Wildcard playoff.

John Farrell has been labeled as a "Pitcher Whisperer," someone who, as a pitching coach, helped bring along and get the most out of guys like Josh Beckett, Lester, Clay Buchholz and others.

Coaching pitchers is his forte, so maybe just maybe John Farrell can turn all (or some) of Boston's no. 3 and 4 pitchers into 2's and 3's.

98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones welcomed in Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald Thursday night to discuss this very topic.

"If he's as good at coaxing talent out of young pitchers, if he's as good at developing pitchers as he's labeled as being, shouldn't he be able to get a lot out of this rotation?" Jones posited.
