Jones: Are The Patriots Ready To Take On Big Time Quarterbacks?

BOSTON (CBS) - The Patriots hold a 4-2 record through six weeks of the NFL season, and so far have had the pleasure of not facing an elite, opposing quarterback.

Alex Smith and Andy Dalton are fine players, but "fine" is just about all they are.

Ryan Tannehill, Matt Cassel and Kyle Orton? No way. Derek Carr? Too soon to tell.

The Patriots have what many are deeming another layup on Thursday night in Geno Smith, but after that it gets real tough for the Patriots defense.

After Geno Smith, the Patriots face a murderer's row of elite passing quarterbacks, starting with Jay Cutler in Week 8, then Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Rodgers and Philip Rivers.

The Patriots defense is allowing the third fewest passing yards per game to opposing teams (208.5 yds/g) as it stands right now, so the upcoming month-and-a-half will be a real test for that unit, now without Jerod Mayo for the season.
